The short answer is yes, but only in some areas at present.
In Australia, the only states that presently pay a ‘gross’ tariff feed are West Australia and the ACT.
A ‘gross’ feed in tarrif means that people who produce electricity and feed it into the grid are paid a premium for the power that they produce.
The net feed in tarrif present used by Queensland, Victoria and South Australia results in the householder being paid little or no fee after their power bill is paid.
It was reported on November 24 that NSW was set to introduce a ‘feed in’ tariff, but it is still unclear exactly how much will be paid.
At that time it was stated by NSW Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Carmel Tebbutt that a task force would be presenting its report this month (January 2009).

Below: photovoltaic solar panels generate electricity from the sun!

With the announcement by the Federal Government in late December 2008 regarding changes to the present rebate scheme, it would seem like an opportune time to consider installing solar panels on the roof.
Apart from the benefits to the environment that clean energy can bring, a combination of rebates and feed in tariffs make it much easier for house holders to switch.
Households may qualify for up to a $7500 rebate to install solar panels under the Federal Government’s scheme, which will not be means tested.
Presently, householders with a combined anual income of less than $100,000.00 are eligible for an $8,000.00 rebate. Changes to the scheme will take place from July 1, 2009!

keep me updated with government buy back schemes
I live in Queensland which does not appear to pay a tariff to those that have solar power installed on their homes, yet the Ergon power company sells green power as a option at a $10 per quarter extra on one’s power bill, if most of their customers were to take the green option they would be making quite a large profit from it, yet the consumers that produce this green power receive nothing, also would not the consumers that have these panels installed have to supply the power that was used to produce these solar panels and associated equipment before the power that they supply would be deemed Green.
